Life is the journey not the destination
Meet Steven and Tracey. Parents to three grown up boys, these two deserve and are thoroughly enjoying the start of what will be a very exciting retirement.
They travel at a leisurely pace in their Crusader Duke caravan taking in every moment of their journey and always looking for new experiences.
When they stop in one place for a while their morning ritual is something to be aspired to. Every morning begins with a coffee followed by couples yoga to set them up for the day. When they are not out and about exploring their new location they can be found cooking, painting, making jewellery, reading. You name it, they do it.
Travelling from the Bellarine Peninsular, VIC, they headed straight up the middle in search of warmer weather. With no fixed date to return home and their house rented out for 24 months this trip will be what dreams are made of.
After years of planning the farewell was emotional with all of their neighbors waving goodbye and handing them notes of well wishes. More than a few tears were shed.
When asked what their favourite place so far has been I was presented with a very long and detailed list, so grab your pen and paper and take note:
Psyches pump bend Mildura
Stargazing Primitive Camp Broken Hill
Cooper Pedy Views and Nobel Tours with Aaron Kings Canyon
Temple Bar caravan park was a great place to base yourselves for Alice Springs
Ormiston Gorge pound walk was fantastic.
Bitter Springs was lovely.
The night we had with Marcus and Alyssa from The Rapids was a true indication of outback hospitality. Eating and Drinking singing and story telling.
Katherine Gorge 3 Gorge tour. Yellow River tour, brilliant.
Kakadu Nitimilik stunning Edith Falls (high on the list of favorites)
Cultural experience at Katherine, on the way to Nitimilik, highly recommended.
Darwin has been amazing so far based at the Five acre family garden
Tracey and Stephen are very special people. Caring, funny, adventurous, brave and very wise.
I really can’t do their words justice so here it is in their own words:
“We are living this life, our mantra is "life is the journey not the destination."
After being given a diagnosis with a very short life expectancy every day is a gift and appreciating that gift is number 1 - 100 on our bucket list
Everyday we:
Laugh, Love, Swim, Read, Paint, Walk, Take photos, create and well…..repeat!
And snorkelling, we love snorkelling!”
And possibly the most mum like caravanning hack I’ve ever heard,
“Always take something to eat, like muesli bars, and water with you always and your first aid kit. ALWAYS”
The perks of travelling are simple really, home is in your van, everything you need is wherever you are. You’ll meet so many wonderful people and it feels like a a community where everyone looks out for each other. You get to live at the most extraordinary locations, with the most eclectic bunch of people.
Life is full of regrets but choosing to hit the road together isn’t one of them, they will always miss the people and things they left behind but they are only ever a short plane ride away.
